Another holiday in Devon - June 2008

A few years back we had a very enjoyable holiday staying on a deer farm in North Devon. We enjoyed the area so much we decided we'd go back again, but this time stay in South Devon and see some of the areas we hadn't reached before. It was also an opportunity to make amends for completely forgetting (last time) that Martin has a cousin (Graeme) living in Devon, who we had the pleasure of visiting and catching up with.

The place where we stayed (below) is a freshly fitted out wooden cabin sitting in a field right on the edge of the open moors, which start a few hundred yards further up the bridleway from which we accessed our field. On a nice day, it's absolutely idyllic. However, this "summer" being what it was, on the other days the cloud coming off the moors was rolling past our windows whilst the rain lashed against the windows and the wind whistled through the crevices. Not surprisingly, we didn't venture out with the cameras on those days, so it all looks fine in the pictures!

Where we stayed - the Cabin at Pine Lodge one of our neighbours, but NIOBY
up on Dartmoor on the warmest day of our week there
whereas three days earlier it was bright, but cool and windy

Spotted Flycatchers, with chicks, in the gardens of PineLodge, Devon.
Inspired by "Springwatch",  Martin spent many happy hours with his video camera recording this nesting pair hunting and feeding their young.
