"Black Harry" claims another victimThis is a building with a place in our hearts - Swinton Register Office. It's where we got married in April 1987 and then walked home in the spring sunshine. More recently it's where we went to register Thelma's death. So we were a little dismayed to read in May of this year that it had fallen victim to the notorious "Black Harry" railway tunnel which runs beneath it. That notoriety came about as a result of a major collapse in 1953, not very far away, which swallowed two houses and claimed several lives. After that the tunnel was filled in, and whilst this collapse, which came about when the adjacent building was being demolished, is far more minor, the British Railways Board are clearly taking no chances on a repeat.
