HDR - How it works...
You take several shots of the same thing (in my case 3) with
different exposure settings, and then combine them with some clever
software (eg Photomatix) to use the best exposed areas from each one.
Hence you get the shadow detail from the over-exposed version and the
highlights from the under-exposed version blended in to the "normal"
shot. The result: more dynamic range than you could capture in a single
exposure. It gives a rather processed, somewhat unreal, look to the
image, and you could say it's the visual equivalent of the sort of
dynamic range compression that takes place in most audio recording. |
